Surf amenity assessment at the Palm Beach artificial reef

Shoretech’s Wave Peel Tracking software was applied to a permanent beach camera to assess the surfing quality of waves over the Palm Beach artificial reef on the Gold Coast, Australia. Potential surfing rides were automatically extracted from the continuous video footage to provide insights into surfing ride lengths, durations, speeds and rates. Our work is published in the journal of remote sensing and was presented at the Australasian Coasts and Ports conference. Our Wave Peel Tracking technology is leading the way in data driven surf amenity assessments. This project was for the City of Gold Coast, lead by Bluecoast Consulting Engineers in collaboration with the University of Queensland and Swellnet.
